As a teenager, I had to ride the city bus a long way to school. During that time in my life, I read several books of end-time fiction, stories imagining what the final days of earth might be like.
One moment in particular stands out. I was reading Unleashed by Leon Orr, a book that is now long out of print. As I came to the end of the story, I was carried away by the reality and majesty of the soon coming of Jesus.
I got off the bus on a dark winter evening and began the mile-long walk home through the pitch-black night. And yet, there was a glowing light all around me. I know that anyone looking on could not have seen it. Truthfully, I did not see it myself. But I knew it was there. I was walking with the light of Heaven glowing around me, filled with perfect peace and joy as I anticipated His return.
That moment has stayed with me ever since.
