A Counterfeit Second Coming

Daniel 11:40 begins a section of scripture telling us about the final exploits of the King of the North. Let’s read what is being described.

And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
Daniel 11:40

The King of the North is coming:

• Like a whirlwind
• With chariots and horsemen

Does that mean anything to you? Maybe not. But take a look at a verse in Isaiah.

For behold, the Lord will come with fire
And with His chariots, like a whirlwind,
To render His anger with fury,
And His rebuke with flames of fire.

For by fire and by His sword
The Lord will judge all flesh;
And the slain of the Lord shall be many.
Isaiah 66:15
-16

Wow! Isn’t that verse fascinating. It is clear that we are talking about God here. And how do we describe His arrival?—with chariots like a whirlwind. Doesn’t that sound similar to Daniel 11:40? The King of the North is coming in a manner just like God.

But let’s be even more precise. The description in Isaiah 66 is not simply talking about any coming of God, but a specific one. Notice verse 18:

It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory.

And doesn’t Jesus explain when everyone will see His glory?

Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Matthew 24:30-31

Yes, He does. It is at the Second Coming when all the tribes of the earth will see His glory.

So what is the King of the North doing? He is copying the Second Coming—a counterfeit Second Coming of Jesus!

Remember how Elijah was taking to Heaven? He was taken while still alive as in a miniature representation of the Second Coming. And what did it actually look like?

And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
2 Kings 2:11

• Chariots
• Whirlwind

The King of the North is pictured in Daniel 11:40 attempting to create his own counterfeit Second Coming of Jesus.

Now let’s dig into the other details: the whirlwind, the chariots, and the ships?
